    Pharma & Food Symposium

    Chromatographic Society of India in collaboration with SIES Institute of Chromatography and Spectroscopy held a two day symposium on the topic, \" The Application of Chromatography and Spectroscopy Techniques in Pharma and Food Analysis\" on December 18-19, 2014 at the SIES Nerul campus. The two day symposium was well attended on both days; the delegates consisted of students, teachers and industry chemists and managers. All the talks were on important aspects of both Pharma and Food industries and were delivered by the experts in the respective fields. The highlight of the symposium was the \"Lifetime Contribution Award \" given to Prof. ( Dr ) Pat Sandra from Belgium and Dr. A.V. Rama Rao from Hyderabad for their excellent contribution made to Food industry and Pharma industry respectively. Another highlight of the symposium was that we had the fortune of having Dr. R.T.Sane as our Chief Guest.

    Drs. S.C.Bhattacharyya and Dr. Sukh Dev Awards Function

    On the occasion of the Essential Oils Symposium held in IIT-Bombay in November 2010, two stalwarts of the Terpene chemistry were awarded the “CSI Lifetime Contribution Awards”. These awards were given in the presence of many of their past students and other dignitaries by the director of IIT-B, Dr. Devang Khakhar. These photos have been captured under various moods and situations.

    Bioanalysis Seminar-Mumbai

    The one day Bioanalysis Sympsoium was conducted in November 2011, by CSI at the MTNL auditorium in Powai. This was attended by more than 70 delegates from the academia, pharma companies and CROs. The lectures were given by the experts in the bioanalytical field viz. Dr. Manish Yadav, Dr. Karva, Dr. Ashutosh Pudage , Mr. Sundar, Mr. Sudhakar. A detailed souvenir publication was brought out on the occasion which contained the technical abstract of all presentations.

    Dr. R.T.Sane Felicitation in Mumbai

    Dr. R.T.Sane, who is very well-known for his contributions to the educational and pharma filed was awarded the “CSI Lifetime Contribution Award” for his long teaching and research career that helped the pharma and labs doing bioanalysis work ( CROs). Many of his M.Sc. and Ph.D. students participated in the program and joined in the felicitation. Dr. R.M.Iyer, one of the pioneers in the field of chromatography and the ex-Chemical Group Director of BARC, was the chief guest and he handed over the coveted award to Dr. R.T.Sane.

    Evolution of GC in India, Symposium held in Mumbai, November 23-24, 2012.

    A Two –Days Symposium on “Evolution of Gas Cjromatography in India-Past, Present and Future” was organized by CSI in collaboration with Chemistry Group, BARC, Mumbai at the Training School Hostel Auditorium on November 23-24, 2012. The event was also supported by BRNS. Dr. M.M.Sharma was that Chief Guest and Dr. M.S.Chadha was the Guest of Honor. Dr. R.M.Iyer, who was the Director of the Chemical Group, several years ago, was felicitated with a “Lifetime Contribution Award” for his research in developing an indigenous GC in India which was commercialized by the Toshniwal Instruments. Dr. Iyer’s co-worker Mr. Annaji Rao and quite a few other veterans from the GC instrumentation companies were also felicitated on the occasion. The two days deliberations were attended by a couple of hundred delegates from all over India. Experts in the field of GC and GC-MS field from different industries spanning from Perfumery to Petroleum and from Forensics to Sports Doping were invited to give lectures.

    Ion Chromatography Symposium

    A focused one day symposium on Ion Chromatography was held in IIT-Bombay in June 2013, where leading scientists working instrumentation and applications of Ion Chromatography presented talks. It was attended by more than 100 delegates and the highlight of the day was felicitation of Prof (Dr) S.M.Khopkar, Emeritus Professor of IIT-Bombay.

    GC-MS & LC-MS Workshop, held at Hyderabad, March 15-16, 2013.

    A Two-Day workshop on “Hyphenated Techniques LC-MS &GC-MS” was jointly organized on March 15-16, 2013 by Bharat Institute of Technology, Hyderabad and Chromatographic Society of India in Hyderabad. Dr. Lakshmi Sivasubtramanian from Bharat Institute of Technology was the Convener of the workshop and the workshop was inaugurated by Shri. Ch. Venugopal Reddy, Chairman and Secretary of BIT. The speakers of the workshop were Dr. G. Ramakrishnan, President CSI, Dr. R. Srinivas, Chief Scientists at IICT, Dr.S.Prabhakar, Sr. Scientist at IICT, Dr. U.V.R.Sarathy, Senior Scientist at IICT and Dr. Padmaja Prabhu, Senior Application Scientist at Perkin-Elmer. The practical sessions were conducted at the IICT, Mass Spectrometry facility and the post graduate students from various colleges and institutes were able to get the golden opportunity to familiarize themselves with the various models of advanced mass spectrometers and interact with the experts in the field at IICT.

    HPLC Workshop at RIPER, Anantpur on 8th and 9th March ,2012

    In line with its commitment to Students , Chromatographic Society of India along with Raghavendra Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Anantpur jointly organized the “HPLC as an analytical Tool” workshop exclusively for students. This workshop was organised in Anantpur on 8th and 9th March 2012 and was attended by more than 65 Pharmacy students from far and near colleges. As in the earlier workshop in Bangalore, The Workshop covered Theory and Interactive sessions including some Hands-on sessions on the Instrument. Some basics related to FTIR using ATR technique was also covered for the students. The workshop was very much appreciated by all the participants who wanted more such workshops to be conducted. A lot of support and organisation effort was rendered by the Principal, Faculty and Students of RIPER, Anantpur to make this workshop a grand success.

    HPLC as an Analytical Tool

    As a part of its continued educational programme, Chromatographic Society of India and Al-Ameen College of Pharmacy, Bangalore jointly organized a two day workshop on HPLC as an Analytical Tool” on 20th and 21st January 2012. <br /><br /> The Workshop covered Theory and Interactive sessions including some Hands-on sessions on the Instrument. HPLC being the most extensively used instrumentation in the Pharmaceutical industry today, the workshop covered topics ranging from Basic theory and Applications of HPLC for the Pharma industry up to Trouble shooting and utilisation in Stability Studies and Impurity Profiling activities. A special session related to Chiral HPLC columns and applications was also delivered. <br /><br /> The Workshop was run by faculty members having extensive experience in using HPLC and related Software in the Pharmaceutical industry and also experienced in conducting training courses. <br /><br /> The workshop was a huge success and was well attended by many participants from the Pharma industry, the Pharma Support industry and the Students Community.

    CSI participation in Indian Pharmaceutical Congress

    Held in Bangalore between 16th to 18th December 2011 <br /><br /> CSI had a stall at the 63rd IPC held at Bangalore in December 2011. A large number of attendees visited the stall and showed a great deal of interest to become members of CSI and also attend the workshops conducted by CSI.

    Symposium on Essential Oils, Flavours & Fragrances, held in Mumbai on November 20, 2010.

    A One Day symposium on “Essential Oils, Flavours and Fragrances-Chemistry and Industry “ was held at IIT-Bombay on November 20, 2010. The symposium was supported by the Sophisticated Analytical Instruments Facility ( SAIF ) of IIT-Bombay. Professor Devang Khakhar, Director, IIT-Bombay was the Chief Guest. Two stalwarts of the Essential Oils and Terpene chemistry, Dr. S.C.Bhattacharya and Dr. Sukhdev were felicitated The then Director of IICT-Hyderabad and former student of Dr. Sukhdev , DR. J.S.Yadav and retired Professor of IIT-Bomaby and former student of Dr. Bhattacharya, Dr. H.H.Mathur were on the dais glorified the contributions of the two great scientists.

    GCMS Workshop

    GCMS workshop for 3 days was conducted by CSI in collaboration with Shimadzu in March 2011 in Mumbai. This was held in the Marigold Hotel in Marol, Mumbai and was attended by 16 chemists from academia and industry, mainly from the flavor and fragrance sector. The lecture on GC theory and instrumentation was provided by Dr. Ajit Datar of Shimadzu, where as the GCMS portion was covered by Dr.G.Ramakrishnan, President,CSI. The GC and GCMS applications were covered by Dr. Jitendra Kelkar of Shimadzu. The practical sessions and demos were conducted at the very impressive demo lab of Shimadzu Analytical India.

    CSI @Analytica-Anacon 2011

    Analytica-Anacon has been a very important and successful Trade Show that is being conducted in India once in two years. The event in 2011 was held in November at the Goregaon Convention Centre. CSI was given a complimentary booth by its organizers; CSI displayed in this booth the details of the objectives and programs conducted by CSI. Many visitors to the show also visited the CSI booth and spent their valuable time discussing various technical matters . Quite a few visitors also chose to become the Life Members of CSI by paying the membership fee.

    HPLC Training Course-Mumbai

    This two day Workshop on HPLC and its applications into the pharma industry was conducted by Ms. Vanishree Acharya. This was held at the Ramnarain Ruia College, Matunga in association with the Dr.P.S.Ramanathan Analytical Instrumentation Centre. There were more than 20 students and industry chemists, who took advantage of this training.
