The COVID-19 Pandemic: Origins, Spread, Detection Methods, Prevention and Treatments

The analytical methods in doping controls initially relied on gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and HPLC, which were designed to enable the detection of specific substances and/or selected drug classes. This drug class-dictated approach, where so-called initial testing procedures employed dedicated sample preparation/derivatization and analysis protocols for each category of analytes has now been replaced by methodology-driven strategies, which involves high resolution gas and liquid chromatography techniques coupled with High Resolution Mass Spectrometry.
