About Chromatographic Society of India
Chromatographic Society of India (CSI ) was founded in the year 2000 at Chennai by a few scientists interested to propagate the education of Chromatography to students and industrial chemists. Now CSI is creditably positioned and progressing in its second decade. During the first ten years, the focus was more in arranging GC and LC courses certified by the American Chemical Society. These courses were held by very experienced people such as Dr. Stuart Cram and Dr. Lee Polite from the United States of America. These trainings were held at Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad. CSI has arranged in the past HPLC and LCMS seminars and workshop by Dr. John Dolan in Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad and lecture in Mass Spectrometry by Professor Graham Cooks from Purdue University in IIT - Mumbai, IIT - Chennai, Indian Institute of Science - Bangalore and IICT - Hyderabad. More than a thousand chemists and students have taken advantage of the above courses and seminars across India.
As CSI has travelled into the second decade, some focus was laid on the symposia and recognition awards besides the training courses and seminars. The first major symposium on “Essential Oils, Flavours and Fragrances-Chemistry & Industry” was held in November 2010 at IIT, Mumbai. More than 250 chemists from the industry and research students attended the symposium. On this occasion two stalwarts, Dr. S.C.Bhattacharya ( he died early this year) and Dr. Sukh Dev were felicitated and bestowed with the Lifetime Contribution Award.
During the symposium held in IIT-Bombay on November 20, 2010 on “Essential Oils, Flavors and Fragrances-Chemistry and Industry” two stalwarts of Terpene Chemisty and Industry, Dr. S.C.Bhattacharyya and Dr. SukhDev were felicitated with Lifetime Contribution awards for their commitments to Research, Industry and Education.
